Earlier in the week, the Gauteng MEC Health Dr Bandile Masuku met the media for dinner to discuss developing an ethical partnership while reporting on health matters in service of the people on the ground. The MEC said: “As the Executive Authority for Health, I believe the media is an important part of our democracy and public life without which we cannot succeed as a nation.”
The MEC addressed some of the issues on the state of the Healthcare System in the Gauteng Province and the NHI bill. The MEC added: “I have decided to meet all our social partners ahead of the Five-Year Strategic Planning Session of the Department. I have already met with departmental staff, organised labour, civil society and now, the media is next and later; the business community.” The purpose of the dinner was to have a high-level strategic conversation about the plans of the sixth administration and how these will contribute to better health outcomes in the next five years.
