Blitz is an accelerated maintenance model where the JRA’s internal maintenance teams are concentrated in an area where there is maintenance backlog.  The aim of this campaign is to eliminate road defects backlog in all regions.

The Blitz in Region E focused on the following activities:

  • Road markings (painting)
  • Skoffeling
  • Pothole repairs

Among the activities the JRA continued testing the Jetpatcher Road Repair Machine.

JRA is aware of the number of potholes on the city’s roads.  The recent heavy down pours accelerated the formation of potholes in areas where the road surface has aged.

Jetpatcher, it’s cost effectiveness, longer lasting repairs, a super fast pothole fixing process, bottom-up jetting & compaction technology, workability in all weather conditions & zero wastage.

As an organization, we are committed to providing quality roads hence the initiative of looking at new technology that can assist with service delivery acceleration. The Jetpatcher machine started to fix potholes from 08:00-15:00 in Woodmead/Woodlands drive. The number of potholes fixed was 49 per hour.  The normal size of a pothole is 1 square meter, this means that a pothole of a larger size is measured as more than one pothole.

“The JRA will continue with the Blitz throughout the city as part of the new operating model to reduce road defects backlog”, said JRA’s Managing Director, Goodwill Mbatha.
