The Honorable, Mr. Thembelani Thulas Nxesi, Minister of Sport and Recreation tees off at the PinkStig Friendship Classic to initiate August Women Month’s celebrations.

UniMedia is honoured to host Minister Nxesi, as he tee’s off the ceremonial start to the PinkStig Friendship Classic 2nd edition, at Blue Valley Golf & Country Estate.

The PinkStig Friendship Classic, takes place on the 1st August, proudly boasting half the field consisting of  women golfers, both professional, amateur and corporate.  This event aligns itself to a national media campaign with the emphasis on women in golf and sport and the role government continues to play in promoting and advocating excellence in sport in South Africa.

Mr. Nxesi is currently serving as the Minister of Sport and Recreation since March 2017 and served previously as Minister of public works. He also served as the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform and holds a Bachelors Art degree from the University of Fort Hare, a bachelor degree of education and higher diploma in Education.

Minister Nxesi is clear about ensuring that sport should be accessible to all, including women and youth. This aligns to UniMedia’s vision in nurturing local talent whilst home growing our players by providing new platforms for them to play. As it is, we boast the perfect grounds for practice with 440 golf courses countrywide combined with the best weather. The Minister maintains “We wish to deliver on being Africa’s leading sport region through innovation and excellence. We also seek to promote capacity building and cooperation in sport as well as to encourage equitable access to sport and recreation especially for women and people with disabilities.”

At UniMedia, our modus operandi is to create more competition through play to compliment what the Minister confirms; ‘excellence is an art won by training and habituation…..we are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.’

The partnering and collaboration with government sector and private companies such as UniMedia is imperative in scaling new sporting initiatives whilst linking to new communities, creating a stronger economy in both sport and tourism.
