UniMedia Support Millennial Golfers
The apprentice championships are a 36 hole event held around the residentials every year. The PGA Apprentice Championship took place on Monday and Tuesday at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club. The apprentices played for a prize fund of R30 000. Terry Smith won the event and qualified to go to Australia and play in the Futures Championship in October 2017.
Terry’s passion has always been to play professional golf. From the age of nine he started playing with his dad and joined the primary school golf team. Rory McIlroy has been his hero and inspired him to be a better golfer. He is thankful for having Werner Kapp (PGA AA Professional) as his coach and mentor to help improve his game and support his life dream of becoming a professional.
He describe his victory as one of relief and utter joy, after a lot of hard work and practice now finally paid off. Terry said “Making the cut playing in the IGT tour event the previous week at Randpark gave me the confidence going into the Apprentice Championship. Having the support from family and close friends gave me the necessary boost to believe in myself and my game.’’
