Leanda Schulze Encouraged by the interest in Women’s Golf
Leanda Schulze born 1994 and since turning professional in 2015 has already made quite an impression on those who are following her career and who believes she holds great promise as a professional golfer. She recalls one of her highlights as an amateur playing in the North West Championships and finished T7 on +3 at Pecanwood. She also went on to represent the Free State and Northern Cape womens IPT team in 2012 and 2013.
“As this year was my first year as a professional and being able to play the Ladies Sunshine Tour I dont have a lot of achievements yet but hopefully that would change in the near future. But I am proud of how I did in my first season on the tour with an Order of Merit finish on 28th. I managed to pay for my 2nd year at the PGA with my winnings which really helped me. With the PGA I get to do a lot of different stuff and one of them being involved in junior coaching which I enjoy very much.” says Leanda
She has been a member at The Bloemfontein Golf Club for the last six years and has the privilege now to play out of Fancourt Country Club. ” I have a very big family at the Bloemfontein Golf Club which I owe a big thank you to. If it wasnt for all their help and support I probably would not be so fond of the game. The man whom had the biggest impact and influence in my life and in my golf would be Quintin Williams.”
Regarding her favourite clubs: “The first clubs I bought was Taylormade and I still play with the same irons which I really love. My favourite courses would be Kathu in the Northen Cape ,the Montagu at Fancourt and The Links would be at the top of my list.”
Leanda Schulze is excited about the PinkStig Initiative and how it can add value to the lives of professional women’s golf. With the existing Sunshine Ladies Tour, which no doubt has been the only platform to play on in South Africa it is encouraging to see the growing interest for women’s professional golf.
