It is a classic clash of the greats. An unprecedented heavy weight battle between the legendary Little, and the powerful Pace. In the left corner is Sally Little, winner of two majors, a total of fifteen titles and arguably South Africa’s most successful golfer. On the other side of the ring we have Lee-Anne Pace, South Africa’s current number one with a title list as impressive has her back swing.
Both ladies have a lot to prove. Do female golfers, like wine, get better with age? Or does a modern training routine and frequency of play ensure sustainable success? My money usually rides on the underdog, but in this case, it is hard to conclude who exactly that could be. Both players have their strengths and weaknesses, and both are women that I admire, not only for their play, but their humanity.
I cannot think of a better way to celebrate women’s day, than to witness the past and present greatest South African FEMALE players in action. You will find me at the Pearl Valley Golf & Country Estate on the 2nd of August, cheering by the ring, as I watch Little versus Pace. No matter the outcome, it is sure to be a delight!
